TEAM MARTIN MAMA TEACHES
Who is Team Martin Mama?
First and foremost, I am the mom and wife of Team Martin. My husband and I have been together for 26 years and are currently living in Colorado. We have four children, ages 6-15. We have also hosted a German exchange student and are currently sharing our home and family with 15 sponsor cadets from the Air Force Academy, yearly European soccer coaches, and eleven well-loved pets. As a spouse of a now retired military pilot and current commercial pilot, I’m not a single mom, but frequently a solo one.
During the school year, I’m usually a room parent, class photographer, PTO member, Girl Scout leader, and school volunteer. I have been a PTO President, VP, and fundraising chairperson. We’ve lived in 5 states in 20 years allowing me to serve as the local chapter President and Activities Chairperson of various national moms' groups.
I graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in special education. I have taught in my own self-contained, cross-categorical special education classrooms in IL and SC. I’m working on my Colorado teaching certificate. I’m now working for two English as a Second Language companies, teaching online English classes to Asian children.
I have enriched my children’s educations for the last 14 years with various activities and lessons at home. In B.C. times (before Covid), our family had very active summers at lakes, playgrounds, museums, amusement parks, spray grounds, national parks, pools, zoos, etc.
This year, we are staying much closer to home and are frequently riding bikes, walking our dog, or coloring our driveway in chalk. We have also added a reading tent, climbing structure, rope swing, and outdoor movie screen to our at home activities. Every summer has plenty of at home learning and projects such as painting, tie dyeing, science experiments, baking, etc. Most of my ideas are found from my hours of combing Pinterest, where I have a healthy following for my thousands of pins. Our life has changed dramatically as a result of COVID, but our parenting has not.
Numerous friends and family have reached out to me with their concerns about their own ability to educate their children at home for a variety of reasons. Online education through the district is going to need more parental involvement than ever before. Can you do it? Can you get your children through their unique education this year?
YES!!! YOU CAN.
